Icons & Iconography

Icons are tangible evidence of the reality of salvation. Man was created in the image of God (Gen 1:26-27) but allowed that image, and with it the world, to be corrupted. God became man without ceasing to be fully God (John 1:14) and thereby restored the image – not just ethically, through His teachings, but in His whole person, as is proven by His bodily resurrection. An icon of Christ affirms the reality of that reconciliation of the human and the divine and enables us to contemplate the person who is the model of our theosis. [Adapted from an article by John Yiannias.]

Often described as “theology in color” or “windows into heaven” icons are indeed that tangible evidence that through the Cross and Resurrection all creation has been redeemed and glorified. This forum is offered to provide a dedicated place for discussions about icons and iconography; both the history and theology of icons as well their prayerful creation by contributing iconographers.
