Sts Peter and Paul BCC, Beaver Meadows, PA

Here are some pictures of one of the finest parishes in the Eparchy of Passaic (from what I've been told): Sts Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church in Beaver Meadows, PA. It is one of the larger parishes in the eparch, located a few miles away from Hazleton in a town of less than one thousand residents.

The liturgy was well sung (even some Slavonic here and there;-) - I attended on a Saturday evening DL on pro-life Sunday back in October. Fr. James Demko gave an excellent homily.

I hope that you enjoy the pictures.

This is one of the most beautiful Eastern Catholic churches I've seen! When will we get something like this in Texas?...*smile*

The church is beautiful. Very big on the outside, but the interior is small. Is there a parish hall underneath?

The church interior is actually quite large - very large in fact. Bigger than the RC church of St. Mary right next door. It can seat several hundred peope. The choir loft is massive - overflow seating surely and even 'in the day' it was not only for the choir.

Yes, there is a hall underneath. And it had the 'residual pyrohy' smell. I love it.

The front steps were being replaced at the time.

They have 2 Divine Liturgys a weekend. I went on a Saturday evening - about 100 ppl (but I've never been good with guestimating) - and they sang very well once they got rolling. I'd love to get there for their Sunday morning DL! Young people were there. Families. Good to see in the coal regions.

The church in Sheppton is served from this parish. Sheppton never had a resident pastor, from what I gather. I'm hoping to get pictures of that one during the upcoming break. That one and the Mahanoy City church - that one is breathtaking.

Jon: You have done a wonderful job in chronicling the uniquely diverse and rich forms of Eastern Christianity of NEPA.
