Cross Veneration Bread "Blessed Bread" from Cross Veneration Sunday.

Description

Attached is a photo the "Blessed Bread" distributed at St. John the Baptist Russian Orthodox Cathedral, Washington, DC at the Vigil for the Third Sunday of the Great Fast - The Veneration of the Cross. It looks like a hard, shortbread cookie, and seems to be made of simply flour and water (don't think there is yeast in it) and covered with powdered sugar. A very nice thing to do!

The Cross Veneration Vigil is one of my favorites. When Father Potapov brings the Cross through the Holy Doors the entire Church falls to its knees in prostration.

We also fall to our knees in veneration...Also, a huge cross decorated in white carnations was set up infront of the altar entrance, and throughout the Liturgy, people went up to venerate it accompanied by metanoies.
