The centenary year ended with Saint Liturgy in Máriapócs.

At the Saint Liturgy, 3rd December – the centenary of the 3rd weeping of the Icon at Máriapócs – concelebrated Cardinal Péter Erdő, president of the Hungarian Catholic Bishops’ Conference (HCBC), Juliusz Janusz apostolic nuncio, all the members of the Bishops’ Conference, priests of the Diocese of Hajdúdorog and the Apostolic Exarchate of Miskolc.

For this special occasion, Pope Benedict XVI appointed Cardinal Erdő to be His special delegate.

Ignace Moussa Daoud, prefect of the Congregation for Eastern Churches, Merited Patriarch of Antioch sent his greetings in a letter and joined the celebration in his prayers.

In his homily Cardinal Péter Erdő spoke about the history of the Weeping Mary Icon and announced that the Bishops' Conference declared the Basilica of Máriapócs a national shrine.

At the end of the Liturgy, Cardinal Erdő offered Hungary to the Mother of God and gave his apostolic benediction.

For the centenary solemnity, the Weeping Icon was cleaned by restorers. After the Saint Liturgy, the Icon was crowned with a golden glory, which was blessed by Pope Benedict XVI a few weeks ago.

From 4th to 18th December, the Icon goes around in the Hungarian Greek Catholic dioceses.

I am going to Mariapocs in April. Has anyone ever been there? Does anyone know people in Hungary who speak English and who can assist me there?

One Love.
