There are quite a number of similarities, it seems, between the Byzantine and Syrian rites, as far as liturgics go. Orthodox Catholic Member Registered: 11/05/01 Posts: 22291 Loc: Canada	Dear Cantor and Mentor, I was reflecting on your point and I don't know to what extent it can be applied to the Byzantine canons. Without "tooting my own horn," I will say that I do the daily Canons of the Octoechos and, after a while, one does indeed see how they reflect the original Biblical Canon, especially toward the end (the Biblical Odes are done on Mount Athos and Mount Sinai and a few other places). They may not be the exact verses from the OT canticle, but the theme is still there. My favorite is the first Ode, which deals with the Crossing of the Red Sea. Joe
