St. Matthew 28:1:8

On the night after the Sabbath, at the hour when dawn broke on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalen and the other Mary came near to contemplate the tomb.2 And suddenly there was a great trembling of the earth, because an angel of the Lord came to the place, descending from heaven, and rolled away the stone and3 sat over it; his face shone like lightening,4 and his garments were white as snow; so that the guards trembled for fear of him,5 and were like dead men. But the angel said openly to the women, You need not be afraid; I know well that you have come to look for Jesus of Nazareth, the man who6 was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, as he told you. Come see the place7 where the Lord was buried. You must go in haste, and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead; and how he is going on before you into Galilee, where you shall have sight of him. That is my message to you. Whereupon they left the tomb, in fear8 and in great rejoicing, and ran to tell the news to his disciples.

Ronald Knox, The Holy Bible, c. 1944, 1948, 1950

Brothers and Sisters:

Christ is Risen!!! Indeed he is Risen!!!

The joy that believers share this weekend can only pale compared to one thing: the joy of these women who witnessed this awesome event firsthand.

May the Divine and Uncreated Light shine into the hearts and lives of all our brothers and sisters celebrating the Holy Feast of Feasts beginning at the Vespers Liturgy of St. Basil the Great this day.

Please remember your brethren here who have already celebrated weeks ago and even me, a sinner.

In Christ who is truly risen from the dead,

BOB

Fr. Stephanos:

I bought this version in the late 1960s. I'm not sure it is still in print or readily available. At the time I bought it, the choices were King James, RSV, Rheims Douay, and Confraternity version. There were not the many translations available today.

This translation comes from the Vulgate with reference to the Hebrew & Greek versions available in the late 1930s and early 1940s. One other remarkable thing is that Msgr. Knox translated the whole Bible himself--it wasn't a committee effort.

As I recall, I had to order it from a bookstore.
