Roman,

He was born in Akron, OH in 1953; father worked for Goodyear, mother was a newspaper columnist/ reporter. Has a brother Thomas, also in the film industry, and a sister, Anna. Not a lot else to be found online about his personal life, other than his schooling.

Thanks, Neil, but I did do some on-line searching and had already read much of what you mentioned.

I did notice that there are not one - but two - Jarmuses involved with the (Orthodox) St. Andrew\'s College in Winnipeg.
