Hi everyone! This must be my very first new topic on this board. I'm Armando and I am 17 years old. I was born in an Eastern Orthodox family.Personally I didn't mind my family being Eastern Orthodox. Then I saw my father disrespecting everything related to Christ and the Church, my mother agreing with him and my brother... He's 7 years old, smokes and drinks a lot and everytime he meets a girl of his age asks her to have intercourse. I got worried. I tried with my parents, begged them to go to Liturgy and confess. They mocked the orthodox and catholic liturgies (masses). Then I spent some time with my brother. I realised that under that bad and rotten self is that 7-year-old innocent kid. I started Catehising him (teaching him with simple terms doctrines of the Catholic Church and teaching him morality (against abortion etc.) My mother doesn't mind but I am afraid they might threat to sue the local Catholic priest (they've done it in the past). They say he is the reason I converted even though they know well that I didn't talk to him until I decided I would convert and wouldn't turn back. I am not trying to prosylitise my brother but I am trying to save him. He is really interested and I believe I can help him a lot but I fear my parents will mess this up. What should I do?

Armando,

You have some serious issues here. Your parents have not taught your brother anything moral, and that is why he probably does this. You have to go lightly when trying to teach anyone in your family. It takes a lot of prayer and patience. You also must learn to step back a little from time to time, and test to see if your brother wants more. and then give him the time to process it and make it a part of his life. you should also have some support from your mother, or at least permission to teach him due to the past problems. Above all, prayer for the softening of your parents heart is definitely needed now and for a long time to come. With man few things are possible, but with God all things are possible.

My prayers are with you,
Father Anthony+
