Sounds like a wonderful way to evangelize. I am sure some will skow at them, but if I were a teen speding a lot of money on a tee, this would work. I guess there are bracelets also...cool!

Unfortunatley this does not seem to be Christ centered enterprise.

It is a little hard to tell if the person has a faithfilled intention.

I can say though, Catholic imagry has found a niche among the various sub-cultural expressions of young Christians. for example, Sacred heart and Immaculate heart tattoos, shirts, hats, belt buckles.

I personally do not think it is really a great way to Evangelise, but God can use anything. It seems to me, a bit impersonal to advertise God. But hey, in today's world, sometimes some people have to get the attention of others some how!

My courtee has a beautiful shirt of The Virgin and Child. It is more of a blouse though. It is not a tee-shirt. it's kind of hard to explain.

I have also seen shirts that say "Jesus is my homeboy". It's not a bad idea but I don't think that the people wearing them are wearing them for the right reason. And besides the use of slang like that makes me cringe and I'm 17. I guess i never thought of Jesus as my homeboy becuase i tend to classify Jesus with more... respectable terms. Maybe i'm just being a prude or something.

No, Katie, you're not.

Those t-shirts, regardless of good intentions or not, are calling the Queen of the Universe their "homegirl."

This kind of lubby-dubby attitude is, I fear, a protestantization of proper veneration to the Theotokos.

I'm not saying everyone wearing these t-shirts is meaning to disrepect Our Lady, but I just keep thinking of the phrase, "The road to hell is paved with good intentions."

This topic reminds me of my reaction many years ago to "Jesus Christ Superstar", circa 60's/70's.

My reaction then was of total shock and anger. To equate the 2nd Person of the Holy Trinity, True God and True Man, to one of these Hollywierd degenerates sicked me then as it does now.

However, after all these years, I am sad to say that I have become used to it. This crap is all around us. Disrespect is a woefully lacking term.

I blame the bishops for being politically correct and not expressing massive protest to Jewish Hollywood, corrupters of the world. God forbid someone says something negative about their heritage.

There is a passage in the Bible that states: "At the name of Jesus every head shall bow and every knee shall bend".

Oh I know people got upset when icons were being put on to t-shrits. Also, referring to Blessed Mother as Homegirl does seem a bit odd, but... Some weeks back I was listening to a teaching at prayer meeting, the woman giving it is just so delightful and she was able to say, and it worked well for her when she referred to Adam and Eve or some Old Testament readings, "back in the day"...

See God meets us where we are at. There is nothing we can do in this life that prepares us to meet God in this life, it is only by his grace and mercy that we are able to say yes, to surrender to his love. Even a child Baptized soon after birth, has to at some point make a conscience decision to live for Christ. So if someone dawns that shirt - it wouldn't work for me (wouldn't get one to fit me anyway ) - but if that is the personality that it draws and just one person, one soul who says tell me about Mary or what do you mean Mary is your homegirl? Who is Mary? The door has been thrown wide open and God has met them where they are at.

Anti-semites always sound ignorant and you're no exception. It would give me a headache to think down to your level.

May I remind the adults that all posts should reflect an attitude of Christian charity. The post regarding Hollywood and its response fail in that regard.

I would further like to add that this ByzanTEEN forum is listed as "a Meeting place for ByzanTEENs", yet a casual perusal of the various topics reflects that a majority of the posters here are NOT teens. As the moderator, I am going to ask the adults to refrain from posting here.

I apologize Deacon John. I thought it would be a topic of interest to teens. However, I will no longer post on their forum and I ask forgiveness if I have offened anyone by doing so. I did not mean to cause any problems.

Pani Rose,

Reading over my post, I see I was not clear. Speaking for myself and not the ByzanTEENs who do post, I see nothing wrong with non-teens who post topic starters. The problem develops when adults provide the overwhelming majority of the responses.

I think it is a great thing that non-teens post here. Everyone was a teenager once and they can offer valuable input. Most of the posts do come from nonteens

Well, Katie, it looks like it's just me and you! (And only one of us is Byzantine).
