It's getting to be a bit disconcerting. My mom died in June. My brother died in July. My grandmother died today. She was 95 and her death was not unexpected. Nevertheless, please pray for all of us and for the repose of her soul.

I'm so sorry, Dan, about your grandmother. Even when the death is expected, it is always painful to lose someone you love. I will pray for all of you and for the repose of the soul of your grandmother. May she rest in peace.

In Christ,

Jenny

Dan,
I am so sorry for your losses and, unfortunately, know how you feel. I lost my mom, 2 aunts, 2 uncles and my grandmother all within a year of each other. They all take their toll, no matter what the circumstances.
I pray for the souls of those you have lost but my heart goes out to you for comfort and peace.
You are in my prayers.
God Bless you,
-Janet

Thank you all. Her visitation will be on Friday and funeral on Sunday. Almost all of my relatives are Protestant or nothing at all. My grandmother was a very devout protestant dedicated to seeking holiness.

One of the blessings of being in an Apostolic Church is having the privilege of hearing my loved ones names read during Divine Liturgy. A liturgy has been said for my mom and brother and I will have one said for my grandmother as well.

There was genuine release and joy when I heard their names read. Do you all experience that when this happens to you?

Dear Dan,

I too experienced your sense of disconcertedness one year . . .

As a Methodist (which I'm assuming she was) she really wasn't a real Protestant!

I like to think of them as Christians who really take their religion seriously.

May God rest her in peace!

Alex

Dan,

This is an excellent topic for a new thread. I have a friend who was a member of the Church of the Brethren before becoming Byzantine Catholic. He speaks warmly about how, after his father died, the ongoing remembrance of his father in the liturgy really helped the grieving process.

Dan;

Please accept my heart felt condolences also. I was in a similar situation in 1995 with ten deaths (six relatives and four close friends).

Remember to be kind to your self during the grieving process, especially with multiple deaths.

My prayers are with you also.

Thanks again to all of you.

I was reflecting some more about my grandmother. My parents were not Christians. They fought with each other constantly and finally divorced after I left home for college.

As a teen ager I drew much comfort from my grandparents and especially my grandmother. In many ways she was a mother to me.

Dear Dan,

Please accept my sympathy and prayers for you and your family. May you continue to find consolation in the knowledge that as you pray for them, they pray for you.

Again, I thank you all.

We just returned from our trip to Michigan to attend my dear grandmother's homecoming. The only sad thing about the funeral was that my grandmother had really outlived her earthly church connections and the funeral was done at a funeral home instead of a Church. Despite that it was one of the most blessed occasions I've ever attended. She was truly the matriarch of our clan. There were scores of people who testified that she was their spiritual mother. There never was a problem that she and God through prayer could not solve. No one was ever turned away if they were homeless or hungry. My Grandparents took in more free borders over the years than we could remember. They were responsible for getting countless numbers of people on the right track spiritually and financially and were responsible for saving the lives of several people.

My aunt, who is very spiritually minded herself, has challenged me to write her memoirs. I think I will.

Dear Lord, Grant Eternal Repose to Your Servant and May Your Angels Lead Her To Your Beloved Presence.

Amen.

Dan, my condolences to you and your family.
May God grant you patience.
