Dear Friends,

Our Head of State, Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada, is now touring her Dominion of Canada on the occasion of her Golden Jubilee as our Queen and Sovereign.

I ask for your prayers for her and the Royal Family.

The Eastern Church perspective is evident here.

Three of Her Majesty's close relatives are honoured by the Orthodox Church as saints and martyrs: Tsar St Nicholas and Tsaritsa Alexandra and St Alexandra's sister, St Elizabeth the New Martyr.

Her Majesty married into the Greek Orthodox Royal House and her husband Prince Philip is an Orthodox Christian. So is Prince Michael of Kent.

Prince Philip's mother was an Orthodox nun and she had a chapel in Buckingham Palace.

When she died in 1969, she was buried alongside the New Martyr Elizabeth in Jerusalem.

In addition, Prince Charles is now much interested in the Orthodox Church.

"Zadok the Priest, and Nathan the Prophet, anointed Solomon King . . .and they all cried out, 'God save the king!'"

Alex,

Are you SURE that Philip is still an Orthodox Christian and not converted to Anglicanism??

Could you imagine the Liturgy sung in St George's Chapel, Windsor or of all places, Balmoral with the Ministers of the Kirk in attendance??? smile

Your Brother in Christ,
Brian Patrick

Dear Brian,

Philip rejected Orthodoxy before his marriage to the Queen, but then returned to it in the 1990's.

See Fr. Andrew Philips' articles on www.orthodoxengland.net

God bless,

Alex
