Just an fyi for those of you who are interested in writing icons. EWTN has a program on tonight (Saturday) at 9:00pm (eastern time) entitled "Writing Icons".

Christos voskres!

Thank you so much, Loretta! I saw the program, and I was floored. Did anyone catch exactly which church the male iconographer had painted? I think it was a Ukrainian Catholic church in Edmonton. From what they showed, this was absolutely one of the most beautiful Byzantine Catholic churches I have ever seen. Wow.

RichC: Being new to the Byzantine Church, I was overwhelmed to see the beauty of that church in Edmonton. I never knew a church could be so beautiful. What a remarkable vision!!!!!!!!

Check out this site for icons http://www.ilianrachov.com/

I'd appreciate your comments.

Hello Loretta,
I have to second aRomanCatholicGuy's opinion. The "icons" aren't. There are any number of violations of the canons of iconography. To be sure, some of the pictures are pretty nice art. "But 'icons' they ain't."

RichC,
i jotted his name down because my pastor and I are picking an icon writer for our church and he's really good, I think it was like Heiko Shilger. Maybe the Catholic channel will repeat it soon. I also noticed the show was made in 1998.

The name is Heiko Schlieper.

He participated in an exibit "Under the Sign of the Cross" here at the Museum of Civilization in Ottawa. Here's a web page about his participation.

I had an opportunity to talk with Mr. Schlieper while he was working on a large icon right in the museum. His work is amazing!

Can you imagine a Federally funded museum in the United States having an exhibit such as this?

Go to Google.com and search for Heiko Schlieper and you'll be able to see several of his projects.
