Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. Probably not the style you're looking for, but:

Benedictine or anyone,

What is the significance of the hand of the servant who is having his wine poured to him? Looks like he has 3 fingers up??? Any thoughts?

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that it is the wine steward making a gesture indicating the superior quality of the wine. I suppose it would help to know a little bit about the culture of the iconographer.

Of course, it could represent the trinity manifesting itself at that moment. That might have been a sign to show God fully present in space and time.

OK I'm out of guesses!

What do I win?
Michael

From the link:

Quote:
All the persons mentioned in the Gospel story are included or symbolically represented in the image. Seated around the table from our left to right are Jesus, Mary, the groom, the bride, a representative disciple of Jesus, and the chief steward. ... The disciple is represented with a very large and high forehead, symbolic of spiritual enlightenment. His hand is raised in a gesture of blessing, acknowledging the manifestation of the Messiah's power. ...
