Dear Friends,

Some years back I wrote an akathist in honour of the reformer, John Hus, for a Lutheran friend who was interested in the Eastern Church.

He translated it into German and put it to music for his parish church in Germany - Hus is honoured by the Lutherans and others, including Old Catholics and Polish National Catholics. Hussite converts to Orthdoxy also continue to honour Hus privately. I've since lost contact with him.

But I've just received an e-mail saying that my little thingy is making the rounds and has caught the notice of some other Lutheran ministers here in NA. An article I wrote has been printed with commentary most favourable toward the Eastern Church and this has come to the attention of an Orthodox professor who wrote to say he liked my approach to things smile smile .

Anyway, I had no idea about the fate of that little akathist way back when.

It was nice to get reacquainted!

Just wanted to share that little piece of news . . .

Alex

Dear Anhelyna,

Yes, thank you, M'Lady!

All this talk about Catholics becoming Orthodox, or Orthodox becoming Catholics.

But go out and bag a few Protestants - and then I'll say, "Good job!" smile smile

Good job, Alex . . . smile

Dear Alex,
Congratulations on the success of this creative effort, as you may remember I have a particular interest in Jan Hus.

I would very much like to have a copy of this Akathist. I am very pleased that it has put on as many miles as it has!

If you would be so kind let me know how to get a copy I would be very appreciative! smile

Thanks
Michael, that sinner

Dear Michael,

I would be more than happy to send you one - but I only have a hard copy of it right now and will have to retype it . . .

I wonder how the Lutherans got a hold of it after all this time?

I'd ask the Administrator to place it here, but I don't think everyone would be too thrilled about it! smile

An Akathist hymn to Hus? What next, a hymn to John Calvin? Sometimes, Dr Roman, I believe your mind is so open that a wind has blown its contents away!

Dear Daniel n,
I believe you and I see eye to eye on most things, and I always enjoy reading your comments. However, on this we part, there is no comparison between Jan Hus and John Calvin.

On another note, although I recognize that your comment to Alex was just a friendly jest on your part, it seemed a bit unkind.

Your friend always
Michael, that sinner

Dear Daniel,

O.K., I'm off this forum until you either apologise or withdraw your comments.

Your view of Hus is your own - and it isn't the only one out there.

I've received so much encouragement from precisely Orthodox priests in this endeavour - and a number of Lutherans have become Orthodox (and Catholic) as a result of certain bridges that this helped build.

I'm really shocked at your inability to see beyond your own parochialism, Friend!

I'm suspending myself until the Administrator will deal with you.

Alex

Daniel,

I too recognize your post as "poking fun", but Alex has not. Let Christian charity guide you as you choose to respond to Alex's request.

I saw Daniel's post before Alex reacted to it, and I didn't think it was very nice either.

While I do not think that uncharitable comments of any kind are acceptable, I must object strongly to any reference of veneration to any historical figure as controversial as Jan Hus. He was neither Orthodox, nor did he sit particularily well with the legitimate Catholic authorities of his time. If we want to argue about the correctness of his arguments, that is one thing. But it is entirely another to ask for his intercession in Heaven or extol his virtues. This is unacceptable and I must protest.

Sincerely,
Arturo

Dear Alex- You, of all people, are siccing the Administrator on me?
Unless you lighten up [and stop writing Akathist hymns to heretics] I'm going to hold my breath until I faint! biggrin

Ordinarily, I do not like to close topics, but before this gets out of hand, I'm doing just that. As moderator, I've asked Daniel to respond to Alex's request in charity. The issue should be left between Daniel and Alex. There is no need for anyone else to come to Alex's defense or to take Daniel to task.
