Christ is Risen!
Hello, everyone. I am an Orthodox Christian, under the Antiochian Archdiocese. I occassionally browse this forum, but when I look in the "kliros" section, it seems the majority of Byzantine Catholics use the Slavic styles of chant instead of the Byzantine chant that you would hear in Greek or Arabic churches. Do any Byzantine Catholics (especially in the US) use Byzantine chant on a regular basis, or is the Slavic chant the norm?
In the Risen Christ,
Michael

Hakkan Qam, Diak! As soon as I come across topics of interest regarding Byzantine Chant, I'll post them. For starters, here are some good links: www.goarch.org/access/byzantinemusic www.analogion.com www.chant.theologian.org Enjoy! In the Risen Christ, Michael

No, I haven't heard that CD...I might do a Google search on it, though. The Choir of St. John Damascus from Balamand, Lebanon puts out some good Arabic Byzantine music. I'm also a big fan of the Monks of Simonopetra Monastery on Mt. Athos..I've heard several of their CD's...good,strong voices. As a final suggestion, let me recommend the CD of the Vigil of St. Anthony, from St. Anthon's Greek Orthodox Monastery in Arizona. On their home page, you can hear a clip of one of the hymns from the CD: www.stanthonysmonastery.org

FDD The Cedar Rapids parish that produced that CD is a ROCOR parish that follows the Antiochian tradition--but they're not part of the Antiochian Archdiocese. They also run "Mount Sinai Orthodox Church Supplies." Dave

Wow...never heard that before...a ROCOR parish that follows Antiochian tradition? Hey...it is a universal church...why not?

Fr. Deacon Robert Christ is Risen! I had to do a little hunting around, but I believe Father Deacon Robert is correct in assuming they are under the Old Calendar Greeks. Here is a link to their parish information: St John the Baptist - Cedar Rapids, Iowa BTW, I do have the recording and it is excellent. From what I understand they are father and son.
