For those Cantors who enjoy the traditional choral arrangements for the Divine Liturgy and other hymns of our common Slavic heritage, I invite you to check out the recently-updated website for Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church, Philadelphia PA: http://holyghostphila.byzcath.org/

Click on the menu bar item for "Holy Ghost Choir"

Once you have reached the choir's main page, there are MP3 selections from the various professional recordings produced by the Choir over the past 35 years. Definitely worth a visit!

Holy Ghost Choir is under the direction of Sir Knight Daniel J. Kavka, KSG, who has been the Cantor-Choir Director at Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church for the past 58-years.

Yes, Holy Ghost has been a great refuse from the
"anti-Slavonic" elements of today's Ruthenian Metropolia. I even have the Rusyn Jaslickari VHS tape, well worth the price!

May God grant Holy Ghost Church and their parishioners peace, health and happiness for many, many years. Mnohaja i Blahaja L'ita!!

I hope you meant "refuge". shocked wink

I have always liked the earlier of Slavonic Liturgy recordings with Sir Daniel Kavka's composition and duo solo of the Creed (Simvol Viry)! When I travel it is one of my favorite CD or cassetes to play while on the road.

Well, maybe it was a "freudian slip", you know with all of the throwing out of all of the old translations and music in the Ruthenian Metropolia! :p

Thank you for your kind words; I'll make sure I pass them along to those members of the choir who are not "internet-savvy."

All of the choir's recordings have been digitally re-mastered and are now available on both CD and Cassette. Should you be interested in obtaining copies, purchase information is available on the website as well.

Thanks

Thanks for this link.
Listening to the Simvol Viry brings reminds me of blessing of the marriage between HRH Prince Charles and Camilla where a Russian opera singer chanted the Creed...

Ohhh the goose bumps.... How beautiful.

It really depends on the album and selection you are referring to. Speaking broadly about all of the albums, some are original compositions of the late Sir Knight Daniel J. Kavka, KSG, the Cantor-Choir Director; some are traditional choral arrangements from varying Eastern traditions - including Russian; and still others are choral arrangements of the Prostopinije.

There will be a Panakhida for Sir Knight Kavka all the way west in Gilbert AZ next Sunday prior to Divine Liturgy. I'm sorry I can't be there, but Sir Michael Bacovcin will lead the congregation. It is fitting. Parishioners from Philadelphia requested the service. He is and will be missed.

That's terrific. I'm sure that many of us all across the country wish we could be there, but will be there "in spirit."

I know that the Administrator had posted some of the links to the various obituaries for Sir Knight Kavka in the "Prayer" Forum, but I also wanted to call your attention to the one that is posted on the Holy Ghost Website under the "Holy Ghost Choir" section, which was given out in booklet form to the attendees of his funeral a couple of weeks ago. We thought that posting it online would be a good way to share this tribute with his friends who were a little further away. If you have a chance, please check it out.
