This book is a treasure of the resources of a little-known Rite, the Ambrosian Rite of Milan. I've never come across any of it in English before. The Ambrosian Rite is a non-Roman Latin Rite, of which there used to be many. This is one of the few which survived the ruthless Romanisation of the Western Church at Trent.
The prefaces, 311 in number, are marvels of theological insight, using Eastern themes and imagery as freely as Western.

Now that sounds interesting. Thanks for posting it; must investigate further.

Here's an example from Wednesday 1 and 4 of Advent (Advent lasts six weeks in Milan):

It is truly right and just for us to give you thanks,
to praise and bless you, here and everywhere,
all-powerful and everlasting God.

Your eternal Word
adorned the face of heaven with splendour
and, with the glory of the incarnation,
he filled the Virgin's womb and made it fruitful;
so that a new light in radiant splendour
might shine upon all,
and that from Mary, virgin and mother,
might spring salvation for the human race.

And so, throughout the heavens and the earth
all things adore you and sing a new song;
and we with all the angels give you glory
in this, their ever-joyful hymn of praise:

Holy . . .
