I ran across this one this morning. It looks like a very interesting read! Has anyone read it?

Dear Gordo,

WONDERFUL book. I am relying on it for my MA thesis which is looking at the notion of involuntary sin through the theology of St. John of Damascus. It is amazing how little scholarly work there is (in English especially) on this Father. Where would we be without Andrew Louth?? And it's now in paperback.

(It is this same thesis, among other things, that has kept me embarrased about other commitments I have made to people like, for instance, you. frown Many apologies!)

Father Hierodeacon Maximos,

No worries! My goodness - writing a thesis AND getting ordained - AND living in community - AND transferring jurisdictions?

I'm surprised you have time for sleeping and breathing!

I'd love to read it when you're done, though. biggrin Prayers as you complete your paper!

God bless!

Gordo

Dear Father Maximos,

Perhaps you'd have time to say something about involuntary sin for us in the section here on the Forum for the discussion of Scriture Patristic Writings. I have posted a quote by Diadochos of Photiki there under one heading. And the issue is on the table under the section about St. Gregory of Sinai.

I was about to say something myself till I saw this post and realized that I am the wrong one here, to be speaking authoritatively. The best I can do is speak from experience wink

But seriously, it would be helpful to have a more schooled and trusted voice offering a definition or a comment to advance our understanding.

Eli
