I only have a few minutes here and so am going to put four titles on the table here in sequence and comment more later.

I am most likely going to read this one straight through this summer. Till now I have been reading in it. It strikes every Carmelite chord in my heart and head and then some.

Many years ago I fell head first into Dominican Father Juan Arintero's The Mystical Evolution and I have Father Dumitru's Orthodox Spirituality right next to it on the book shelf.

I took a course at St. Tikhon's Seminary (on-line) using the Staniloae book "Orthodox Spirituality" as a text. There is a lot of good in the book. It deals with the three stages of the spiritual life: Purification, Illumination, and Deification/Theosis. However, it is heavily grounded in the writings and teachings of Gregory Palamas, some of which clashes with Catholic Dogmatic teaching, i.e. what was accepted at the Council of Florence relative to the "simplicity" of the Essence of God, whereas Palamas makes "real distinctions" between God's Essence and his Energies (also referred to as attributes in Western sources). Staniloae was an Orthodox priest/theologian from Romania.

No. It was taught by Fr. Alexander Golubov, the Academic Dean of the seminary. To the best of my knowledge, it is still being taught as part of the seminary formation.

I know that there are two volumes of his theology translated into English, but I thought there were more than two volumes. Have those been translated ?

Here there are three volumes of Dogmatic Theology, written by Father Dumitru Staniloae.

A good book is "Saint Trinity or in the beginning it was the love". Also his book on Divine Liturgy.

I did strive to read and understand Father Dumitru. He is a model to me. Another one is Saint Arsenios the Great.

However, I find that the most deep writings of Father Dumitru Staniloae are the footnotes of the 12 volumes of Romanian Philokalia. They are extraordinary. If you can, you may read them.

God God bless you all. Let us be humble, my brethren, soon the Eighth Day will come.

Last autumn I re read a little book of Father M.-A Costa de Beauregard, in a theological dialog with Father Dumitru Staniloae at the Holy Monastery Cernica (near Bucharest). A very bright book!

Take a look to Amazon

Perhaps there is a version in English.

Fr. Dmitri's works are excellent, and beyond excellent.

I'm glad to hear St. Tikh's is using it as a text.

It gives one hope.
