We notice, beloved, that Christ presented Himself to John as one needing to be baptized. This is clear when John says to Him, "I need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?" (Mt. 3:14). That is, "You are coming to me like one in need." In fact Christ had no need to be baptized, nor any need for anything, including righteousness, but when He presented Himself for baptism as one in need, blowing his head in obedient submission, He revealed to us one of the mysteries of the fulfillment of righteousness. When we set out to perform an act of humility and submission, we must do so as one who is truly in need, not in condescension! Christ reveals and carries out not what is fitting for Him, but what is fitting for us and for our salvation and for the fulfillment of righteousness in our lives.
