The following link is an address that Metropolitan Nicholas of Amissos of ACROD delivered in Uzhorod, Subcarpatho-Rus on the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of Fr Boksaj's Edition of Protopinje back in June of this year. He offers some insightful information. I believe that at least a few of our posters might have also been there.

I feel some of the insights presented may be relevant to the discussions here.

Does anyone know what Metropolitan Nicholas thinks of our "NEW" Liturgy?

A magnificent address - and Metropolitan Nicholas really is one who has known and loved the Prostopinije tradition from childhood.

To me, what he says about relations with the Greek-Catholics and unity is the most siginficant song.

To all--

Have the warmer relations, mutual conversations between the two main hierarchs, and seminary exchange visits continued under Metropolitan Basil? If they have, you don't hear anything about them. If not, why?

I doubt if he is "in the loop" on that.

But I think his opinion counts, so we are right to wonder. Metropolitan Nicholas is an inspiration to me, he is an example of a fine priest and bishop.

His heart is in the right place, he wants to heal the old wounds. But he is not getting any younger, he just passed his 70th birthday this year. I sometimes wonder if his sentiments are shared by the BCC eparchs of today.

Indeed, that was a great address!

This reveals again one of the great deficiencies in the process of the present revision of the Liturgy and chant. Metropolitan Nicholas indicated that he would be very willing to work with the Ruthenian Byzantine Catholic Metropolia of Pittsburgh in regard to our common chant. But instead of working with them we are working unilaterally and basically in isolation. Why can't we wait and colaborate with other Churches that share our tradition, both Catholic and Orthodox? Why the haste? This haste will only serve to delay the progress the Metropolitan referred to.

Many years to the beloved hierarch of ACROD. Vladyka Nicholas is a wonderful example to all of his brother bishops, Catholic and Orthodox. I never fail to draw inspiration from his writings and speeches.

"We can no longer ignore one another, Orthodox and Greek Catholics. We can no longer walk on the opposite sides of the same path that leads us to Christ. We will never again become “cannon fodder” of the enemy – those who try to divide us. We have a common heritage, and that means necessarily that we must have a common future."

-- His Grace, Metropolitan Nicholas

Amen!

Here is a vision for our future. How can we make it so?

We can make it so by rejecting the new liturgy.

We can make it so by rejecting the ideas of those who believe that the Ruthenian Liturgy does not enliven the Church.

We must ask and keep asking our bishops to work with Metropolitan Nicholas on common translations of our complete liturgical texts and singable musical settings for our chant.

Eis Polla Eti, Despota!
