"Officials at Boston College have announced the cancellation of a dance sponsored by campus gay, lesbian and transgender organizations." (Headline, Catholic News Agency)

Rest of the story here.

This follows Boston Archbishop Sean P. O'Malley's cancellation of his plans to attend the annual Christmas dinner for Catholic Charities because the event is honoring Mayor Thomas M. Menino, a supporter of Catholic Charities who has also been an outspoken advocate of abortion rights and same-sex marriage.

I don't think this is a violation of students' rights in any way.

Since when do I have a right to do what I want in a place owned by someone else who disagrees with what I want to do.

Yes everyone has the right to free speech but I do not have to provide them a platform for that speech.

BC is not a public college, it is a private institution.

Bravo!

Whoever is ashamed of Him and His teachings should not purport to speak in His name.

The Archbishop and BC are obviously not ashamed of Him. I'm glad that they are speaking in His name.

In Christ,
Andrew

There is more!

Remember the gay adoption recently facilitated by the Boston Catholic Charities?

Quote:
The [Boston] Herald, citing an anonymous Church source, said that Archbishop Sean O'Malley has received a letter from the papal nuncio in Washington, Archbishop Gabriel Montalvo, saying that Catholic Charities must discontinue its current practice of helping same-sex couples adopt children.
Full story here.

Yes, the Boston Archdiocese under Archbishop O'Malley is doing great! Now, if only he can move Senators Ted Kennedy and John Kerry into contrition. wink
