I think they are as confused as I am as to what diocese he is taking on. Jerusalem would be the Patriarchs see. Could it be he is to be the Archbishop of Nazareth etc. I am glad the Melkites are 'unionized' work conditions for clergy must be very good there. biggrin

The See of Jerusalem is not "under" the Greek-Catholic Patriarch of Antioch - there are three distinct Greek-Catholic Patriarchates in the Arab world: Antioch, Alexandria and Jerusalem. The same person is Patriarch of all three of them.

Father Elias is elected Archbishop of St Jean d'Acre, Haifa, Nazareth and All Galilee. The Patriarchal Eparchy of Jerusalem is a distinct diocese, governed by the Patriarch with at least one Patriarchal Vicar in residence, since the Patriarch must attend to the three Patriarchates and the world-wide diaspora.

Father Elias is an amazing man; his election brings a breath of hope and a breadth of vision into a most painful and difficult situation. He deserves and will need our prayerful support.

Thank you Incognitus. I had a suspician that this was the set up. HB Patriarch Gregory III previously had the job of Patriarchal Vicar in Jerusalem.

Incognitus,

Sorry that my post seemed to have poor wording. The link provided seems to clear up any confusion that would occur to any of the other viewers of this thread.
