I saw this book by Fr. Walter Ciszek in the library and I checked it out. It seemed like it would be good reading for Lent. Has anyone here read it?

It is absolutely wonderful! A powerful, down to earth, humbly written book by a true saint. It contains many spiritual truths that Fr. Ciszek experienced (and suffered) directly and he recounts it so beautifully in that book. His cause is now up in Rome and it is no surprise. There is a Walter Ciszek League that operates out of Shenandoah Pennsylvania that produces a newsletter on the status of his cause. If you are interested, I could get you more information. Enjoy the Lenten reading!

It is a wonderful book. I remember many years ago (I was an undergraduate at Fordham University) Father Walter spoke to the students about prayer. It made a lasting impression, and I always feel especially blessed to have met him. He was a living Saint, and I hope to see his icon.

Elias

Father Ciszek actually wrote at least two books. I too read them as Lenten reading within the last few years. I wish I could remember the name of the second one. An aquaintence of mine was blessed to have him as her spiritual director. She gave me a piece of his clothing along with a prayer card for the cause of canonization. I believe the second book is an account of his spiritual journey. It was in my opinion the more powerful testimony but leaves out some of the particulars of his life.

Fr.Cizek's other book is With God in Russia...I would highly recommend this for spiritual reading during the great fast...it's spiritual yet not overwhelming...

One of my favourite three books ever published. Suitable for any time of the year. It's a personal account of his striving to live a Christian and priestly life while a prisoner under the Soviets. Worth more than all academic treatises combined, if you ask me.
