Peace In, I've not read this yet but Gerard Noel's history of renaissance popes, spanning 1447 to 1572 (Nicholas V to Pius V), looks quite interesting: The Renaissance Popes: Statesmen, Warriors and the Great Borgia Myth. Peace Out, Irenaeus

I did read the very negative review of the book - the only review posted there at the time - on Amazon.com. I've already returned the book to the public library. What most held my attention when I grabbed this from the library was the part of the subtitle about the myth of the Borgia popes. The bibliography cites Ludwig von Pastor's work on the popes which is highly regarded.
My interest in the Renaissance popes may be no more or less than in popes of any other period, though perhaps those in the apostolic, sub-apostolic or patristic ages may have an edge with me. I do have J.N.D. Kelly's "The Oxford Dictionary of Popes" at home which I use as a reference though perhaps I'll read it cover-to-cover sometime.
