Glory be to Jesus Christ!

I've noticed that the Melkite Horologion that was printed not too far back is out of print at the moment. Unfortunately, I didn't buy one before they were all gone, so now I'm looking for a copy someplace. Does anybody know a website/ebay lister/other source that is known to have some of these still?

Many thanks,

Mark T.

Good Evening:

My I suggest that you try contacting the Melkite Diocese of Newton. I am sure that they would be very willing to assist you. I think that they are in the process of re-printing the Melkite Herologian and they could tell you when it might be completed.

They are very willing to assist people. The do have a WebSite. Just try Melkite Eparchy of Newton. I wish you success in your endeavor to try to obtain one. May I recommend to you another beautiful Melkite prayerbook. It is entitled "Holy Things For the Holy". It is an excellent prayer book to use to prepare to receive the Holy Mysteries and for Confession. I have one and I would not be without it.

May Our Lord and Our Immaculate Theotokos always guide you!

I'm told that the Horologion will be back in print within a year or so. I doubt they still have any copies, but it never hurts to ask. (I just hope that this time around they fix some of the typos wink )

I'd also highly recommend "Holy Things for the Holy".

Oh Lord although I desired to blot out
With my tears the handwriting of my many sins
And for the rest of my life to please thee through sincere repentance;
Yet doth the enemy lead me astray as he wareth
Against my soul with his cunning.
Oh Lord before I utterly perish do thou save me!

Mark,

Were you at the convention in '06?
Anyway, it is very possible that we will be able to get the Horologion at the convention in Miami. Are you going?
Sometimes we do a poor job of getting things into the hands of our people. You're Melkite right? Call the Eparchy or e-mail or call Subdeacon (i think) Paul Stamm. He handles Sophia Press.

Laka,

Paul Stamm is the eparchy's webmaster - he has no connection w/ Sophia Press, you're thinking of Deacon Paul Leonarczyk, the Dir of Communications.

Many years,

Neil

Laka,

I think that you're thinking of a different Mark. I was not at the Melkite convention last year and, because of school work, I am also not able to go to many conventions/meetings of any sort this summer unfortunately.

I'm not Melkite, but I use the books produced by the Eparchy of Newton for the Hours at home. I was planning to buy this book when it came out, but never got around to it and... now too late I suppose.

I called Sophia Press earlier today and was told that it would be six months before the next printing. Hopefully I can encounter one of these before then though.

I wanted the horologion, also, but it went out of print too quickly. It seems that desirable books like this often end up being printed by small publishing houses that can't possibly meet the demand.

I was glad to learn that you like the book "Holy Things for the Holy". The beautiful Melkite prayer book printed by the Eparchy of Newton is also good. I recently obtained that as well. The Prayer Book of the Eparchy is very good too and not that expensive.

Hi Mark:

I know that you are trying to get a copy of the Melkite Catholic Horologian. Might I suggest to you that you might be able to get a copy of the Ukrainian Catholic Divine Office book in English from the Eparchy of Stamford. It is very well done and I presume that some of the prayers and reading would be similar to those in the Melkite Divine Office Book.

I have a copy of the Ukrainian Catholic Divine Office Book and it really is a spiritual treasure. The prayers in it are beautiful especially those to Our Lord and Our Immaculate Theotokos.

The Office Book was compiled under the auspices of the Basilian Fathers.

Perhaps you could contact the Eparchy of Stamford. I hope that this suggestion is helpful to you! God Bless

A friend and I have been off on the hunt for the other past threads where this has been discussed - and also other books which may prove to your interest.

I hope these links work

Book of Prayer (Chasoslov)

and

Available in English: The Divine Office

Thanks for the suggestion to buy the Ukrainian Horologion. However, I actually already have one (I use it as my "travel book of hours" when I don't want to travel with 3-4 books extra books).

Luckily, the price came down a lot since the time that it originally came out. I think that the Eparchy sells them for as little as $25 now.

Fr. Deacon Lance,

When I bought mine, I got the hardcover edition, and it was only $35 (I can't remember if that included or excluded shipping). I believe the woman who took my order said that the soft-cover version is only $25.

Hello Father Deacon Lance:

I was able to get the PaperBack version of the Ukrainian Catholic Divine Office for $35.00 through the auspices of the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate in Canada. It really is a treasure. I would agree though that some books can be quite expensive.

It really is a beautiful book and has added much to my spiritual life!

God Bless You

Pardon me, but I must be pedantic. The Breviary we are discussing if not the "Divine Office" of the UGCC but of the Basilian Orders (male & female) and perhaps some other Orders. Yes, it is used (in English and Ukrainian) by many people in the UGCC but it is not the 'official text'.
