Jeff,

It is the Jelicy in English melody "A" from the new RDL book page 31, sung as printed. It is a similar melody to the 1970 Levkulic #1, as well to the Jelicy melody that is in the 1969 Papp Irmologion and in the 1906 Bokshai Prostopinije. I"m looking for a recording of the said melody in either the Levkulic setting or the Papp setting. I'm not fimilar with the melody.

Dear Ung-certez and Rusyn31,

OK, so it sounds like we're talking about two different melodies - and each you is dismissing the other's smile

Ung - the Rusyn one was probably recorded in English in the Byzantine Liturgical Chant cassette collection on tape 1, side A; I can probably digitize if for you if that would help. Here is a link of a MORE ORNATE version sung in Slavonic as part of the Papp recordings set. (The melody in the Green Book is much closer to Bokshai, to the 1970 English setting, and to Jerry's version.

Rusyn31 - the Galician melody has been in use in our parishes for over half a century, and recognized in our official chant books in English since 1970. There's no obligation to sing it, as you can always sing the other....

By the way, please reread what I said when I mentioned the Cantor's Companion; I was referring to the fact that it discouraged the use of "spoken announcements" during the Liturgy (the ones you were complaining about, right?), not discouraging the use of one melody or another.

Yours in Christ,
Jeff
