I actually can't remember the last time I watched an entire movie, and it's been over a year since I went to the show, but I still thought this would be a fun thread, so in no particular order here's twenty of mine to start.

Michael Collins
The Patriot
The Passion Of The Christ
The Song Of Bernadette
April Morning
Shane
High Noon
The Vikings
Mr Smith Goes To Washington
It's A Wonderful Life
The Quiet Man
The Bounty (1984)
Gentleman Jim
Captain Blood
Francis Of Assisi (1961)
Zulu
The Miracle Of Our Lady Of Fatima
Nicholas And Alexandra
Dumbo
The Song Remains The Same (had to sneak that in)

I find it difficult to watch movies and usually catch myself thinking well before the movie is over, "I should be doing something useful." More often, I am thinking, "why am I wasting time on this when I have so many things to do?" The exceptions have been the "Lord of the Rings" and movies in a similar vein. I guess you can tell I am not a movie buff. biggrin

Akira Kurusawa has such an eye for lighting. I like his other films too than the one I mentioned (The Seven Samurai and Yojimbo come to mind). I thought of Kagemusha because it touches on a moment of change and highlights the last throes of the Samurai way of life quite heroically. I like Ran because it is a fascinating adaptation of Shakespeare's King Lear, which is my favorite of his tragedies...and Rashomon has such a subtly emotional play with light/dark contrasts that I have to wonder why contemporary American directors would want to fill those spaces with dialogue.

Can't forget the Godfather series or the Wrath of Khan--there's just something chilly about how he repeats Ahab's last speech.

The Godfather movies were all excellent. I especially liked how the periods of each movie were captured so perfectly in every detail.
