Henry V (Branagh version)

Oh! Das Boot! An astounding movie! I was totally unprepared for the ending...

I loved the Branagh version of Henry V. My favorite part is at the end of the Battle of Agincourt, when the bodies are being cleared from the field to the sounds of Non Nobis Domine. Even in the horrors of war, Latin makes things seem beautiful.

An even better Shakespearean movie is Roman Polanski's MacBeth.

Henry V reads much better after having read several histories of the Hundred Years' War. The first read I had of it left me overwhelmed.

I love the Hundred Years War too, in a historical research sense, and Henry V could be pretty cold. The St Crispin's Day speech is fantastic though, as is the "Once more unto the breach" speech Act 3 Scene 1.

Dr. Eric...if you love movies about con men, track down "House of Games" from 1987, starring Joe Mantegna and written by David Mamet. You will really enjoy it!

Considering it's hockey season, I can't believe I forgot to include on my original list the greatest hockey movie (there are so many) ever made: "Slap Shot," filmed mainly in the Hollywood of the East Coast--Johnstown, Pa., also the location for "All the Right Moves" (football movie with very young Tom Cruise for all you youngsters out there).
