The bouzouki is one of the key instruments in some of the Greek pop music I listen to.

The Eagles, how could I have overlooked the Eagles?!? Thanks for reminding me Gordo. The Eagles compete for the #2 stop with Queen on my list. Beatles are still #1 (Go Lance!)

Eastern music wise, while i find Sr. Marie Keyrouz a little too high-pitched for me, I like her renditions of liturgical "favourites".

Apart from that, I love the CD prepared by Ss. Peter and Paul Antiochian Orthodox Church in Ben Lomond, CA. Entirely in English and very beautiful... Well-timed and properly done.

I also have the whole Fr. Sleiman Hajjar CD. Fantastic.

Next on my list? Divine Liturgy celebrated by the Mt. Lebanon Choir. Hehe.

Gordo,
That was the name of the made up band in the Tom Hanks movie "That Thing You Do" about the fictional one hit wonder band.

Is there now a real band by that name?

As the Latin Catholics say...

B-I-N-G-O!

Just having a little fun to see if anyone was paying attention...that movie is actually one of my favorite movies.

Listening to the New Eagles CD I just bought at Walmart for under 12 bucks. Very, very interesting. The songwriting is unique...a few hits here and there, but you can here some nods to the past as well as some new sounds. Well worth it, IMHO.

All mine are English

The Beatles
Queen
Led Zeppelin (I'm conflicted as Jimmy Page was into Alester Crowley) eek
The Police/Sting
Genesis/Phil Collins (my wife's influence there)
David Bowie
Eric Clapton/Cream
The Rolling Stones
Ozzy (once again, conflicted)
Yes
ELO

As you see, everyone has members that are either dead or old(er). smirk

As far as new bands I like Jet, Nickleback, and Maroon 5. I am extremely disappointed with Chris Daughtry's music as it sounds like everything else. frown

Americans:

The Eagles
Aerosmith
Boston
Pearl Jam
Stone Temple Pilots/Velvet Revolver
Tom Petty
Lenny Kravitz
Carol King
Huey Lewis
(80s songs remind me of being a kid and a little homesick frown )
Chuck Berry (St. Louisan!)
Miles Davis (East St. Louisan!)
And no I don't like Nelly, I'm not a rap fan at all.
Willie Nelson
Toby Keith's funny songs (like "I'll Never Smoke Weed With Willie Again!") laugh

And... Zero Tolerance (guess who the lead singer and lead guitarist were)

Daughtry's irritating. Except for Taylor Hicks (who managed to keep up with his soulman style... somehow), both Chris Daughtry and Bo Bice sold their soul and ended up sounding softer than usual. Wimpy.

Give me a country song or Skynyrd song... they downright honest anytime. I feel it more than anything. Damn i need ol' time rock & roll!

Klezmer Conservatory Orchestra

Yay! I didn't know anyone else on this forum listened to Klezmer music! I didn't put down that genre in my music list as I often get embarrassed when people find out I listen to it. I like the Klezmatics. I really connect with this form of music as I am a convert from Judaism. (you can bring the Jew to Christianity but that doesn't mean they give up their Jewishness).

What about the Schmenge Brothers. You just don't hear songs like
"Cabbage Rolls and Coffee" being written in today's popular music. smile
