Late last night, His Eminence Archbishop Vsevolod of Chicago and Scopelos (Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the USA - Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople) fell asleep in the Lord. Just a week ago he celebrated his eightieth birthday and the twentieth anniversary of his hierarchal conscration; there was a gathering in his honor at his cathedral in Chicago, which he was able to attend; he was presented with a Festchrift which Eastern Christian Publications had produced to mark the occasion suitably.

Archbishop Vsevolod was a remarkably prophetic Hierarch who truly loved the Church and worked untiringly for the unity of the Church, with some remarkable successes. Please have him in your prayers.

Fr. Serge

Eternal memory! Prayers that hierarchs will pursue unity in the Body of Christ and with as much energy, commitment and love as Vladyka Vsevolod.

Vichnaja pamjat Vladyka... Everlasting memory to a great worker in the vineyard of the Church. His work on such ecumenical projects as the Kyivan Church Study Group, Orientale Lumen conferences, and his writings will not be forgotten.

Glory to Jesus Christ!

Archbishop Vsevolod was a frequent contributer to the success of the Orientale Lumen Converences in Washington DC and other locations.

He was a strong advocate of unity between Catholics and Orthodox. As gentle as he was in his demeanor with people, he would show much strength when he called for unity by saying "One Chalice, One Church".

He will be missed, but the legacy he leaves will be eternal.

We thank You, O Lord our God, Who alone are immortal. Your glory is beyond comprehension, Your love for mankind is beyond expression in words, and Your Kingdom is without end. In You there is no guile, for You have ordained to each person the self-same death. Therefore, we beseech You, O Lord, grant rest in the bosom of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to Your priestly servant and former co-worker +Archbishop Vsevolod who departed in the hope of a resurrection and eternal life. As in Your earthly Church, You made him Your laborer, so make him the same in Your heavenly sanctuary. And, since among men, You favored him with a spiritual dignity, so admit him, uncondemned, to the glory of the angels. On earth, You glorified his life, so grant that his departure from life be in the manner of Your Saints the just ones. And include him among all those who have ever pleased You. For You are the resurrection, the life, and the repose of Your priestly servant (name), O our God, and we glorify You, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and ever, and forever. Amen.

Here is the link to the Festshrift. Evidently there are some very moving stories and reflections on this wonderful hierarch in this text.
