Good News!

The Byzantine Forum has moved to a new server. The new server is more robust and should be noticeably faster. Please share your experiences in this thread (especially if you don’t notice any difference).

If all goes according to plan we hope to upgrade the Forum software sometime in the next week or two. If you are experiencing any problems with the Forum software now is the time to let us know.

Admin.

Dear Mr. Esteemed Administrator,

Congratulations on your "Great Fast" server. I trust it will follow the rules and not serve meat and dairy during the Fast.

Many Blessings!!!

Dear Administrator,

Compared to what happened when I changed threads before the new server, the new server operates at the speed of light. It's a great improvement.

Thank you again for all that you do to make the smooth and rapid operation of the Forum possible.

Steve

Dear John
Pilgrim and Odd Duck,

We hope that it will be especially careful not to serve the Odd Duck on occasion, at least during the Fast! biggrin

Dear Administrator,

Did you switch over today? I noticed that the forum was unavailable for some time in the late AM (CST). Well anyways it working fine now.

Thank You.

Hmm

I had noticed yesterday , before the note was posted, that the Forum was very slow to load - though I no longer use AOL- I wondered if it was me or perhaps something else.

Yesterday afternoon GMT ,late on, I connected without problems and today[ 8.15am] all seems to be well and nice and fast.

Long may it stay that way wink

I'm almost ready to do the software upgrades. The board will be down for about an hour when I get to it.

This is now the third time today I have been on the Site and yet again I have had to 'refresh' a page as it came up blank.

Now using IE 5.2 for Macs as well as MacOS X [ 10.2.4]

Dear God-Esteemed Administrator:

Just wanted to add my comments, as requested. For me, the forum has been working fine most always in the memorable past, and with considerable speed and efficiency. I do not notice any difference presently, one way or another.

Thank you for your continued good work and the sharing of your God-given talents with the church. I look forward to the approaching upgrades.

God bless you.

Fr. Joe

Angela,

IE 5.2 should be working fine. If you experience this after the upgrade please let me know. There are settings under Tooks > Internet Options > Advanced for HTML 1.1 that you can turn off or experiment with.

I'll dig around for that - not shown under Tools on my version possibly somewhere in Preferences. I'll experiment later. biggrin

Esteemed Administrator,

Working well, and it does seem faster, the pages seem to load more quickly.

I'm afraid that the Today's Topics section is less useful to me personally than before. There used to be more topics listed (without parts of messages) than there are now. So, I'm inclined to skip it, and go to each Forum, instead.

I seldom had problems with the system's performance, and do not perceive speed changes, but I'm only an analog user.

Admnistrator, since the Forum Server was updated, I think the time clock is off about ten minutes? Anybody else notice this?

Thanks, everyone, for your comments!

Jim, the “Today’s Active Topic” feature now shows post from the preceding 24 hours rather than just midnight of the current day. This will mean a few less posts are listed there but it is a big help to our members in Europe who used to have only a few posts listed because of the time difference.

Ung-Certez, Yes, there is some issue with the clock on the server gaining time. I’m looking into it. Thanks!
