I have had the opportunity to examine this book during the past week. It encounters Holy Week as is celebrated at the Greek Orthodox Church of Our Savior in Rye, NY in 2004. I can be sure of the date because it was the last Holy Week that retired Archbishop Iakovos of North and South America was able to participate in before his repose. There are a few photos of the late Archbishop participating in the services. It features highlights all of the services that would be served according to the Greek typicon from the Saturday of Lazarus to Pascha.
The book is laid out in the style of a photo-journal showing highlights from the different services that would include the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts, Holy Unction, and all the other various services. The photos are thought-provoking regarding the spiritual highlight of the particular event being featured. The book is well written, easy for the reader to understand, highlighted with excellent photographs, and carefully laid out for maximum effect.
The book is reasonably priced, and is sturdily bound with an attractive cover and jacket. I definitely would recommend it for any that want to enhance their library.
Kudos to Mr Thomas on this excellent effort to bring out the spiritual dimension of this special time in the life of every Orthodox Christian from the perspective of an ordinary parishioner.
