Diak,

Mar Bawai's role is still in process. He has stated he is ready to do anything that is requested of him, but at the moment, H.G. Mar Sarhad has requested that he be allowed to stay and assist with the flock that was under his care until recently. He is in effect serving an auxiliary bishop role, but, from my understanding, things are still in process.

Peace,

"Oh, how good it is when brothers dwell in unity!"

Anthony,

Congratulations!

I am very happy for this wonderful news.

Has there been any reaction from the Assyrian Church of the East?

Understanding the canonical recognition given by the Catholic Church to Orthodox churches (Eastern and Oriental), I have every reason to believe that he will remain a bishop. Whether he will be an auxilary or not, remains to be the question. I don't think that has been an incident where an Orthodox was reordained a Catholic priest.

Oh, he's certainly a Bishop. There's no chance of the Catholic Church re-ordaining him, but I think people are wondering about his active role. For example, will he be the Bishop of a diocese/eparchy, or will he take another role.

Peace and God bless!

Dear Ghosty,

You are absolutely right. He is a bishop and it is his position/active role that is still to be determined. He will not need to be re-ordained.

There was an announcement that H.G. Mar Bawai would be taking on a teaching role in Eastern Studies in Rome {I am not sure which one specifically}. This will be in the Fall semester from what I understand... this news was in one of the Assyrian shows. So it seems he will be spending some time in Rome each year.

Dear Griego Catolico,

I have not heard any thing regarding the reception of this news by the Assyrian CotE. I pray that the vocal media outlets of opposition to this unity do not reflect the official thinking of most of our brothers in the ACoE.

Peace,
