Regarding the "Bonus Reason":
Bear in mind what my UGC parish priest told me nearly half a century ago: "Bridges are made to be walked on."
Given Rome's treatment of the Eastern Churches over the past centuries, it seems clear that some Romans have not just "walked" but trampled on their Eastern brothers and sisters.
