Description
Dear all, I am having a lot of difficulties identifying the original of this icon, given to me as a blassing in Sarajevo after the 90's war. Does anyone know where the original is? This is no doubt a folk/peasant icon... God bless you all,
Alexia

Alexia,

By all appearances, this could possibly be a "family" icon in which the patron saints of the family are depicted. The five subjects depicted are the cross (Stavros), the Mother of God (Maria or Mary), Saint Nicholas (Nicholas), Saint George (Gheorgi or George), and Saint Demetrios (Dimitri or Demetrios). It is not uncommon for a devout family to have such an icon done and placed in the family's icon corner. As to the age of the icon or origins that is unknown.

In IC XC,

Father Anthony,

Thank you so very much for your quick response. This icon was given to me by a Serbian family friend who claims I had saved her life during the war. I have put it in our icon corner, and have always wanted to trace back its origin.
Again all my gratitude, God bless you and our community (a special thought for Kosovo)

Alexia,

Welcome to the Forum and thank you for sharing this icon with us. The "folk/peasant" style in which it is written is not uncommon to that seen in many older Serbian icons. It is truly beautiful and you are blessed to have a friend who would gift you with it.

Many years,

Neil

Thank you very much, Neil! God bless you (and may Kosovo be included in all our prayers)
