Does anyone know if the RDL has some how changed how Baptism is prescribed? Namely, has the exorcism that is supposed to be done in the Narthex of the church at the beginning of liturgy been removed/changed to another day?

Thanks for your reply. I heard of a priest who wanted to do the exorcism the day before the baptism, and I had never heard it done that way or suggested. I was just curious if this was an invention by the priest, or the way things were going to be done.

The Exorcism is technically part of the Rite of Reception into the Catechumenate and not an intrinsic part of the Rite of Baptism, although the former has become prefixed to the latter in the case of infant Baptism, just as the Rite of Betrothal has become prefixed to the Rite of Marriage. Adult converts needing Baptism should receive the Rite of the Catechumenate before their Baptism. Technically there is nothing wrong with seperating the services for an infant, but what the point would be I don't understand as infant is not going to undergo a period as a catechumen like an adult would.

I hope you don't mind Stephanie but your question is somewhat close to one I have; I'd like to ask it here. We moved in April, I gave birth in June and in July the baby was Baptized in our new parish. In our old parish the babies were Baptized, Chrismated and received Holy Eucharist all on the same day. This time the baby was Baptized, Chrismated and when we asked about Holy Eucharist Fr said, next week. He then gave us the baby's certificate and Holy Eucharist is not listed on it, only Baptism and Chrismation. The following weekend he received Jesus but it isn't on his certificate. He will get one when he has his First Communion. I probably shouldn't be so worried about this, but if we move, we have no proof he has received. And the inaccuracy kinda bothers me. Are other parishes doing this also? I love our new parish and I am not going to start ANY trouble, but as a mom well you know how moms worry about EVERYTHING! Thanks for any insight into this! Dottie
