Glory to Jesus Christ:

If any of the good members of the Byzantine Forum are looking for a good Ukrainian Catholic Prayer Book in English, I highly recommend "Beneath The Mantle of Your Mercy" which is available through the auspices of the Basilian Press in Toronto, Ontario.

Peace,

John Doucette

I have been looking for a copy of this but can't find anyone who sells it. Does the Basilian Press have a e-mail address you are aware of?

Good Evening:

Glory to Jesus Christ!

I am impressed by your desire to obtain a copy of this GREAT treasure in the spiritual life - "Beneath the Mantle of Your Mercy". I can get the telephone number of the Basilian Press for you. They are a little bit slow in responding to E-Mails, I believe due to large volume of them that they receive as their many Ukrainian Catholics in Canada trying to obtain materials from them pertaining to Ukrainian Catholic spirituality and Ukrainian Catholic Religious Education which are two great needs.

"Beneath The Mantle of Your Mercy" was recently revised and reprinted. I will be getting back to you.

Peace,

John Doucette

Janos:

I managed to find their web sight and a form e-mail you can send the publisher. However, It seems more oriented towards business rather than individuals. Thanks for your help and I look forward to hearing from you.

It looks like a very nice book but it is a bit out of my reach price wise right now.

Try the Basilian Press office. I have seen the book and I think it was published by a committee: something like Canadian Ukrainian-Catholic Education.

The last time I bought the book it was $20.00 CDN (from my parish kiosk). I suggest you try with the nearest UC parish in your area or the Eparchy office. They do tend to carry prayer books for purchase. Usually the Religious goods stores that specialize in Byzantine goods carry the book .

I called the publisher and the lady who answered the phone said it is not available. Apparently the author is supposed to updating it but has not been in contact with the publishing company and no one can tell me anything as to whether or not it will be reprinted. Finding one is going to be ht and miss.

Our parish of St. Vladimir in Scranton PA has used The Anthology for the past three years and we love it. It will be used during the Solemn Divine Liturgy on Sunday, October 19 when we celebrate our Centennial. His Grace Metropolitan Stefan Soroka will be principal celebrant.
The Anthology is available thru:

Viking,

Try e-mailing st.mary.yorkton@sasktel.net. Several months ago they advertised in their bulletin that they had hardcover copies available for sale at the church office for $25.00 (CDN). Not sure if the postage from Yorkton would be prohibitive, but might be worth checking.

Many years,

Neil

Neil,

Any chance that the Horologion will be available from Sophia Press (per the Newton site) ?

James,

The question, many times asked, never satisfactorily answered.

I have not been able to discern whether they are waiting until they think that demand is high enough to assure that a printing will instantly generate enough sales to make it a surefire worthwhile act or what. The other problem is identifying with certainty who speaks for/makes decisions on behalf of the press.

I'll drop an e-mail to someone and see if I can get any better answer this time. Otherwise, I'll bother someone at the end of the month, when His Beatitude is here and all the suspects are gathered in one place for a couple of days.

Will let you know what I learn.

Many years,

Neil

The new edition of the Melkite Horologion (incl. corrections and additions) is in preparation for printing as we write and due out early 2009, so I have heard.
