In Orthodox churches the faithful always venerate a cross, which is held by the priest, at the end of the liturgy.
I was wondering was this ever a practice of the Byzantine Catholic church? If so, why & when was it discontinued?

I know Melkites and Ukrainians do this, in fact Im pretty sure all eastern rite churches do.
