Glory to Jesus Christ, Glory to Him forever!!

All,

Just thought I'd post this YouTube video that came across my wife's email today. I didn't know what else to title the post except name it after the title of the video itself. Obviously this pertains to Christians and all who fight to preserve and not just catholics.
I know there are many varying view points on the upcoming elections, but I thought this video to be quite powerful. It hasn't changed my opinion on the matter (as I'm prolife anyway), but, again, it is very well done and quite moving.

humbly in Christ,
Aaron

Excellent presentation. The Right to Life and strengthening the family should indeed be most important to all Christians, especially to Catholic and Orthodox Christians.

From an article written by two Midwestern Bishops :

Catholic Voters Must "Limit Evil" with Their Vote, Kansas City Bishops Say

Kansas City, Sep 13, 2008 (CNA).- The bishops of Kansas City have issued a joint pastoral letter on the voting responsibilities of Catholics, explaining the need to weigh candidates based on their support or opposition to policies that would enable “intrinsic evils.”

Calling the dissent of Catholics in public life concerning these evils “particularly disturbing,” the bishops exhorted all Catholic voters to form their consciences properly and vote in the upcoming election to “limit evil” when it cannot be eradicated.

Writing in a pastoral letter dated September 9, Archbishop of Kansas City in Kansas John Naumann and Bishop of Kansas City-St. Joseph Robert Finn explained that the Catholic bishops’ practice of never endorsing political candidates. This practice was not instituted to escape regulations for tax-exempt organization, but rather, is traced back to Archbishop of Baltimore John Carroll, the first bishop in the United States.

“The Church in the United States realized early on that it must not tether the credibility of the Church to the uncertain future actions or statements of a particular politician or party,” the bishops wrote. They then referenced the teachings of the Second Vatican Council that the Church is “not identified with any political community nor bound by its ties to any political system.”

However, the bishops insisted, the Church in the United States has insisted on its right “to speak to the moral issues confronting our nation,” acting with the understanding that her role is to form properly the consciences of the citizens of a democratic society. ...

There is also an election in Canada this fall. THe Bishops there have been outspoken also.

Cardinal Returns Order of Canada Medal to Canadian Government

Montreal, Sep 12, 2008 (CNA).- Another Order of Canada recipient is protesting the government's decision to honor Canada's "Father of Abortion" with the country's most prestigious award. In doing so, the Archbishop of Montreal, Cardinal Jean-Claude Turcotte has helped reignite Canada's abortion debate as the country’s election season draws closer.

Last July, the Order of Canada was given to abortion doctor, Henry Morgentaler, the 85 year-old recognized by some as the leader of the movement that legalized abortion in Canada. Award officials select recipients of the honor based on the contributions the individual has made to the country. ...

I'd love to vote for Alan Keyes as well, but I think it will only take votes away from McCain in the end. I'm not a huge fan of either, but I can't vote in good concience for Obama.

I don't understand why the liberal personal ideas of one or other candidate seem to be so important while there are very grave problems in the world, pertaining the people who live and work, the real situation of the families, etc.

Recently, FAO informed that hunger affects about 1000 million human beings and that 30,000 million dolars are needed to save their lives. At the same time six central banks agreed (USA, EU, Japan, Canada, England and Switzerland) to give 180,000 million dolars to the financial system in order to save private banks. Some sources say that 700,000 million dolars will be used to "rescue" the financial system.

Isn't this the result of wild capitalism (neo-liberalism) as it's been imposed in the world for several years? It's a world-wide masonic dictatorship controled by the billionaires, trusts, wealthy corporations, etc. Causing the death of thousands of human beings of hunger, wars and opression is as bad as supporting abortion. The so-called conservatives will not outlaw abortion either.

Yes, I agree with you. I don't think that it is realistic to believe that abortion will be outlawed. If it were up to me, it would be outlawed in most circumstances, but the truth is that even the most important pro-life politicians are committed to ending abortion only as an afterthought. Their real interest is in continuing to prop up greedy corporations and cronies.
I feel I must vote for Obama in this election because there are too many issues related to health insurance, poverty, and energy policy that are vital at this time and I don't trust the Republicans any more. I have to say that George Bush pretty much drove me out of the Republican party for good. But who knows, if they get their act together, I might come back.

And by the way, I think that there are good strategic reasons for pro-lifers to abandon the Republican party and let the Republican leaders know that they are no longer going to be single issue voters. The fact is that the Republican leadership is using pro-lifers just to get their votes. And they know that the only thing they have to do is say they are prolife and vote for a minor restriction on abortion here and there and we will come following them like Lemmings. Well, I say no more. I'm tired of voting for candidates because they claim to be prolife (such as our current president) only to find out that they have not once attended the national prolife march on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade and they have never once used a presidential address (radio, t.v. state of the union) to really spend time trying to convince the American public to end abortion. If President Bush were really serious about life being a fundamental issue, he would go on t.v. and make 45 minute long speeches pleading with the public to change its mind. But that doesn't happen. Instead, religious people get used and thrown to the side so that corporate and military industrial complex interests can get the bulk of attention.

Capitalism has it's negative issues when greed consumes the market. I certainly do not want to see greedy corporations be bailed out of their self imposed crisis, but it seems that this is the governments attempt to save the little people from losing their savings, homes, and retirement accounts.

A free market is still the ideal system that markets should operate on. A free market will experience ups and downs that is the fuction of how it works. Pope John Paul II and many of the ancestors of the posters on this forum knew first hand how much more evil socialism and communism was than captialism. BTW, both parties have their hands in the bail-out crisis.

Hunger, war, and opression are certainly not the goals of capitalism or conservatives. Infact, as flawed as the current executive administration has been I believe that they have spent billions helping countries throughout the world, for instance read this article [america.gov] . We need to protect all life, most especially life that cannot protect itself, like an unborn child!!

Conservatives politicians cannot outlaw abortion because they do not have the power to, but they can sure appoint the judges that can!

joe,

Do you think politician who has no respect for life to the degree that he voted for legislation that would make it legal to kill infants that survived late term abortions really cares about people's poverty or healthcare insurance costs? How can a person care about improving life for people and at the same time not be for life?

To get back to the thread title, is there a Catholic vote anymore? It seems Catholics are sometimes as divided as anyone else.

If you compare Barack Obama's voting record and the non-negotiables of Catholic teaching it becomes very apparent that Mr Obama's positions are diametrically opposed to the teachings of the Church. At the same time a vote for John McCain may well be a vote against the Church's Just War Doctrine. For those reasons and many others, Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party is the only candidate I'll vote for.

Obama has promised to sign into the law the freedom of choice act. It will do away with all laws limiting abortion. This will take away the partial birth ban, conscience objections, and the ban on federal funding. This is frightening.

His pick on judges will put Roe v Wade on the map for generations.

Bush may not have been to the march but he always sent a personal message. He also banned US money from being used for overseas agencies to promote abortions. Bush banned abortions on all military hospitals. His pick of judges also have helped the unborn.

Look at the breakdown of Catholics who go to church and those who do not.

Sen Obama has committed to promoting the FOCA (Freedom of Choice Act). This legislation will PROHIBIT all regulation of abortion and make it available on demand. It will prohibit states from placing any restriction. Current restrictions are:
Requiring an agreement with a hospital for treatment when something goes wrong.
The Born Alive act - if the baby's execution is unsuccessful and the baby is born alive it requires the doctor to do what is necessary for the baby's life.
Parental notification
Requirements that the mother be shown the ultrasound of the baby
Required instruction on the abortion procedure.

All the pro-life gains on abortion restriction will be wiped out by a single law.

Abortion "rights"/prohibitions belong to the states, not the Supreme Court or the federal government. Then it's up to the people in each state to hold the state government responsible; just as it was in 1970.

In the unrelated subject of the $700 "bailout" it appears the the taxpayers will be repaid through equity and federal insurance premiums - thanks to the reluctance of McCain and other independent Republicans. To the Democrats credit there will be a restriction on executives' pay. The "bailout is still not final but looks much better than the original "corporate welfare."

We all need to stay informed, objective and continue to judge each candidate on his respect for human life record.
