I'm curious if anyone has read these two books? I've been slowly working through them... They seem to be quite nice overviews of the vast tradition of Eastern Christianity.

They are strictly overview books, but appear complete at that task. The initial chapter of each book is on 'Sources' for each EC tradition, highlighting books that have been particularly important in each Church. Very handy and informative.

You won't come out of these books on fire spiritually, but your depth of knowledge will expanded.

Spirituality of the Christian East, Volume 1

Spirituality of the Christian East, Volume 2

NB: Published by Cisterian Publications, which puts out excellent books IMHO. High quality physical product.

Also, the original texts for the books are in Italian, which makes following up on interesting footnotes difficult if you don't have access to a lot of Italian theological journals grin
