The Very Reverend Canon Emile Sharanevych, 102, and ordained a priest nearly 77 years ago, entered eternity on December 13, 2008. Parastas for a priest was celebrated on December 17, by the priests of the Washington Protopresbyterate, with the Very Rev. Taras Lonchyna Presiding, in Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church. Fr. Lonchyna was joined by Frs. Wasyl Kharuk, Robert Hitchens, Mark Morozowich, Volodymyr Sybirnyy, and Vasyl Sivinskyj.

Fr. Sharanevych was a retired priest of the Eparchy of Stamford, who resided with his daughter in Frederick,
Maryland. Before being ordained, he married Daria Mukhnatska, who preceded him in death in 1968. He was ordained a priest in the Cathedral of St. George, Lviv, by Bishop Ivan Bucko on February 15, 1932.

His pastoral assignments included: ministry in Ternopil, Berezhany; serving the Ukrainians forced to work in Germany beginning in 1943, where he was continually harassed by the Gestapo; then coming to the United States in 1949, where he served in parishes in Shamokin, Pa., Detroit, Mich., Philadelphia, Pa., Boston, Mass., Auburn, N.Y., Hempstead, L.I.N.Y., and Kerhonkson, N.Y., before moving to be with his daughter,Dada and her family in Maryland.

Fr. Emile, in retirement, concelebrated Liturgies with Fr.
Lonchyna at Holy Trinity up until his passing.

Funeral Services were celebrated at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, Kerhonkson, N.Y. and burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y.
