This reminds me of something that might be better suited to its own thread...

Has using real names exclusively ever been pondered/voted on/discussed?

I think it's come up sort of casually.

Certainly the use of an 'alias' does help prevent Internet stalking

There is no way to possibly enforce it. Apparently this is a problem on multiple fora, enough so that the software developers incorporated this feature in the latest release of our software for the administrators, in order to help give us a tool to combat this abuse. The administrators of the Byzantine Forum will be actively using it.

Now back to our regularly scheduled topic discussion.

Byz TX,

Not to carry the thread further away (or continue on that path) from the topic but, as Father Anthony has said, it is impossible to enforce and has another detrimental aspect as well. A significant number of folks here (in comparison to any other fora with which I'm familiar) use their real names either as nicks or in signing their posts. There are, however, some who hold real-life positions that would be compromised or threatened were their expressed opinions attributable to them.

Many years,

Neil (pleased that he holds no position that would require him to remember another name, as the PINs and passwords that already complicate his life are enough of a challenge)
