The ten year anniversary has just passed of the death of a former teacher of mine, one of the greatest I have known who had immense impact not only on me but on many. Even after his retirement he would come up to a house I and several classmates were renting, sit in the center of the room and teach us with dialogue, a nearly lost Socratic talent. I hear his voice still.

Everlasting memory, Magister John Senior. Vichnaya pamyat.

Fr. Deacon,

Thanks for sharing this and for the reminder. I envy you that you had him as a teacher; I was a fan and admirer. I read, back when, and was enthralled by both his books, The Death of Christian Culture and The Restoration of Christian Culture, and still have my copy of the latter (the first was out of print at the time). I still recall his description of a visit with his students to the Benedictine Abbey of Fontgombault, France.

In refreshing my memory of him, I ran across this:

Quote
...My father died on April 8, Easter Thursday. His funeral was April 13, which is the day he, with our whole family, was baptized in 1960 (Holy Thursday that year). ..

In Christo Domino,
Andrew Senior

I hadn't realized he was a convert. May the Church continue to raise up more teachers like him. Vichnaja pamjat.

Memory eternal to a man who touched so many
