A parish home in Sherman OaksBy Sister Nancy Munro, CSJ Friday, January 14, 2005 www.thetidings.com Excerpt: "They come from Reseda, Woodland Hills, Hollywood, Sunland, Goleta, Orange County. So it is something of a sacrifice for them to travel the busy freeways of Los Angeles to attend Sunday liturgies in Sherman Oaks. But for them, the Byzantine Catholic Cathedral of St. Mary (Eparchy of Van Nuys) on Sepulveda Boulevard is nothing less than home.
"Traditionally, their heritages are usually Eastern European --- Slavic, Polish, Belarussian, Ukrainian --- from areas once under the rule of the ancient city of Constantinople (Istanbul) or Byzantium. Today they, though, are joined by names like McLoughlin and Gutierrez." Click here to read entire article. The Tidings is the weekly newspaper of the Roman (Latin) Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
