Dear Daniil, thank you for the link for the website.The monastery is beautiful and the church is lovely.The best thing is that they are indistinguishable from Orthodox monks.Which is as it should be. I wish that ALL Greek Catholic monks would strive to do the same, since after all they are only following their own traditions. I also loved the fact that you can download music and hear the monks chanting-the Cherubicon in Church Slavonic is not to be missed! Nino

Hello. I'd like to revive this thread with the following questions;
1) What is the OTHER Studite Lavra? I've read that there are two such lavras. One is Univ. What is the other one?
2) Could anyone please tell me a bit more about the elders and the spiritual work of this Lavra? Are thee "starets" and "elders" there? The website is entirely in Ukrainian....

Univ has also recently produced some good recordings - that of the Vigil (Vespers and Matins) for the patronal feast of the Dormition is excellent. Their recording of the Divine Liturgy (all three Antiphons in full) is likewise very nice. Besides Univ, there are houses in Kolodivka, Zarvanytsia and another skete in the Carpathians. Monks from Kolodivka were involved with the foundation at Orangeville, Ontario. The nuns have a few places as well. And yes, the monks do act as spiritual fathers for monks, parochial clergy and laity. A nice photo of the veneration at the Burial Shroud of the Mother of God during the patronal feast (from Fr. Valerian's site): [ Linked Image]

Ummm... what is Fr. Valerian's site? AP, It's the beautiful website of St George UGCC Parish [saintgeorgepittsburgh.org] in Pittsburgh, pastored by our fellow forumite, Father Valerian (Michlik). Many years, Neil

Does anyone know who the schema-monk of Univ is, and if there are any other Greek Catholic schema-monks anywhere among the Greek Catholic Churches of the Slavic tradition?

1. No, but my son will find out for me when he visits soon. 2. I believe the only schemamonks amongst Greek Catholics are those of the Studites. Grotoferrata has not had any in recent history to my knowledge. Fr. Anthony can answer for Chevetogne, but I don't think they have any, either.
As an aside, the Lavra at Univ had one of the last priests, (Fr. Hedeon) to be ordained by a Russian Catholic exarch (in his case +Alexander Evreinov). Other than Archimandrite George (Brianchaninov) I am not sure there are too many left around.

None to my knowledge are tonsured to the Greater Schema. In IC XC, Father Anthony+
