"An old man was asked, 'What is humility?' He replied, 'It is when your brother sins against you and you forgive him before he comes to ask for forgiveness.' "

--From the Desert Fathers

(But ofcourse, most of the times, those who may have hurt us, may have sinned against us, may have been rude or insensitive to us, may have gossiped about us, may have slandered us, or who may have done all sorts of transgressions against us, will never seek our forgiveness anyway!! I don't know about all of you, but I don't hold my breath waiting for them to seek my forgiveness, so I do try my hardest to forgive them...it is nice to know that in doing this I have acquired humility. I never thought of it that way..)

Yes, there is no need to wait for someone to ask our forgiveness. For our own sake, if nothing else, it is much better to forgive and move on. Easier said than done, though...

"Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us."

Someone suggested to me that this means that we ourselves are forgiven in the same measure as we are willing to forgive our neighbours, which is a sobering thought...

We must ask forgiveness with time and without time, until the sunset, or even after a long time, important is to be aware that we mistook against our brother and sister. Forgiveness, asked or given, is always together with God. And God brings peace.
