Hello,

Some people I know were asking if a DVD exists of the Divine Liturgy, which could be used to introduce people to Byzantine worship. Something like those that would be used in a catechism or Sunday school class.

Does anyone know of such a video, and where I might be able to buy one? Thanks!

Click on the icon on the left to open the page and view the video clips
And go here to purchase

(Some videos are discounted though 12/31).

See also “Heaven on Earth: Loving the Liturgy” "This DVD provides an in-depth explanation of the whys and wherefores of the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom as celebrated in the Byzantine Catholic Eparchy of Parma. Originally designed as an interactive experience presented at regional parish locations, the eparchy realized the need for a videotaped version to expand the catechetical possibilities of the presentation. “Heaven on Earth.” That is what our Divine Liturgy has been likened to through the centuries. In so many ways, the Divine Liturgy is great drama – the drama of our salvation through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ."

Not for sale but some good catechetical information is available on the video section of Eastern Christian Media

I like this DVD a lot. It's excellent commentary interspersed with footage of the Divine Liturgy rather than strictly a video of the DL. It includes Baptism/Chrismation/Communion shots as well.

Unlike churches I'm used to which are quite small, the DL shown takes place in large churches with plenty of clergy and altar servers smile It also appears that these churches are filled with pews so all the faithful are in pews.

In the first few minutes Fr Taft refers to the Creation of Adam scene on the Sistine Chapel ceiling. He says something I love-- that the DL is what bridges the gap between those two outstretched fingers- of God the Father and of Adam.
