As a cantor, I appreciate the consistancy between all the liturgies,... What specifically is the consistency?

The Australian & NZ UGCC Eparchy insists on Liturgy on weekedays in Lent other than Wed & Fri, is that also in the Ruthenian revised books for the USA? It's permitted.

Aramis, Here in the Archeparchy of Pittsburgh, weekday Divine Liturgy is NOT authorized. That's not to say that it doesn't happen, but if you look at the official church calendar you will see that there are no epistle and Gospel readings listed, only OT readings. On this subject, I have a question that I hope my Orthodox brothers may respond to: For a funeral on a weekday, do some pastors make an exception and have a funeral Divine Liturgy? I can justify this happening out of pastoral courtesy. Fr Deacon Paul

Of course the new presanctified liturgy incorporates the poor translations of the revised DL. But I think this is a better effort than the green books. People in my parish do not perceive the music to have changed in a significant or disruptive way. I think we were using the Passaic books previously.

Aramis, it is not permitted according to the guidelines our parish received from the Bishop, although our priest requested (and received) permission to celebrate the Divine Liturgy on one day during the week. 6. WEEKDAY DIVINE LITURGY a. Divine Liturgy is not to be celebrated on the weekdays of the Great Fast, except on Thursday, March 25th, the Solemn Feast of the Annunciation, which is to be celebrated with a Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom on the evening of the feast and with bright vestments as prescribed in the Typikon. b. Pastors are encouraged to offer other services during the weekdays of the Great Fast in keeping with our traditions as a Byzantine Catholic Church, namely Great Fast Matins, the Divine Praises, Vespers or Compline. c. At these other weekday services enumerated in 6b, Holy Communion may be distributed. The same applies to funerals during the Great Fast. [This abrogates number 548 of the Pastoral Handbook.]

Apparently, Fr. James didn't get the notice.
We've got daily liturgies scattered throughout the calendar.

"Pastors are encouraged to offer other services during the weekdays of the Great Fast in keeping with our traditions as a Byzantine Catholic Church, namely Great Fast Matins, the Dinine Praises, Vespers or Compline." The Australian Cathedral view is that priests were not to do nothing and no mention was made of the other services that are traditionally served. I suppose it is an indicator of how divorced the UGCC is from the genuine traditon here and why we still have so many Latinisms in place of proper Byzantine practice.

The Australian Cathedral view is that priests were not to do nothing and no mention was made of the other services that are traditionally served. I suppose it is an indicator of how divorced the UGCC is from the genuine traditon here and why we still have so many Latinisms in place of proper Byzantine practice. I wonder what the particular law for the Eparchy states; that for the UGCC in the USA (the Pastoral Guide for the Archeparchy of Philadelphia and the three Eparchies) is quite clear about this in Article 299: 1. The Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts shall be celebrated in every church with a resident priest during the Great Fast on the days prescribed by the Typikon: that is, the First Monday of Great Fast, all of the Wednesdays and Fridays of Great Fast, the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of the Great and Holy Week, unless any of these days be March 25th. The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, being a resurrectional Liturgy is not to be celebrated on the weekdays of Great Fast since it is theologically and thematically opposed to the preparatory period of fast and repentance which has assumed a preeminent position in the 40 day Great Fast period of the Constantinopolitan tradition. (Cf. IRL)
2. This obligation binds all of the priests of a given parish in solidum.
3. The revised Roman editions of the liturgical books are to be used exclusively or translations approved by the Synod of Bishops.
4. It is forbidden to permit other services, e.g., a funeral, which would make the celebration of the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts impossible.
5. If it cannot be arranged that a cantor or choir director leads the singing, the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts may be offered in simple recto tono chant.

Haven't you heard, "So goes the priest, so goes the typikon."
