Belgrade - The new patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) is set to replace a controversial and dogmatic bishop, Artemije, as head of the church in Kosovo, the daily Politika said Thursday. Quoting sources from the SPC, the report said that Patriarch Irinej, elected last month, has ordered a panel of to probe alleged abuses in the Kosovo eparchy.

The move is seen as pressure on Artemije, a traditionalist hardliner who has been implicated in a series of corruption scandals, to step down, the source told Politika.

Artemije reportedly refused to cooperate with the panel, which includes influential bishops, and has shut himself in his cell in the Gracanica monastery, his seat on the outskirts of Kosovo's capital, Pristina.

It appears that Patriarch Irinej is capitulating to the revisionist bishops and the humanists of the EU, and going after a true font of Orthodoxy, Vladika Artemije. God help the remaining Orthodox in Kosovo who have not suffered martyrdom for their faith.

I wonder if other people in Serbia (eg the monks at Decani) are as keen to frame this as a EU vs. Orthodoxy problem, vice a corruption problem.

No, actually it is political. Vladika Artemije refused to give a blessing for Joe Biden to visit Decani Monastery, and now this is payback. Decani has always supported Vladika Artemije. He has provided the only true leadership Serbian Orthodox Kosovo has.

Mr Biden spearheaded the campaign for the Paschal bombing of Serbia in 1999, killing and injuring thousands of Orthodox worshippers On CNN Live he called for all Serbs to be placed in "internment" camps.

I stand firmly with Bishop Artemije on this issue. His decision should have been upheld.

Folks, a reminder -

cease and desist from using metaphorical pejoratives to label public figures of either political party (of any political party, for that matter - since 'either' no longer is an adequate term to use when speaking of same) - as well as non-public figures.

Many years,

Neil

Very bad news indeed when the authority of a bishop within his diocese is overruled. The bishop is accused of neither heresy nor immorality.

Very very bad news..... and that is despite who may be right or wrong on this matter, who is politically correct and who is not, who is being offended.....

Please God, the Decani monks will act to uphold the authority of their bishop.

You use humanist as though it was a bad word, Alexandr. Patriarch St. Photios the Great was a humanist. Humanism--indeed, the entire Renaissance--would not have happened but for the work of Byzantine scholars. If humanism is bad, consider that it has impeccable Orthodox roots. Or are you merely engaging in samokritika?

The word "humanist" carries more meanings than you allow for.

But the one I use is correct. I have strong objections to the loosey-goosey way some people use intellectual terms like "modernism", "humanism" and "liberalism", which simply muddy the waters and create false impressions. If you want to use such terms, use them correctly, or else begin by defining them, e.g., "by humanism I mean____". Otherwise, you are practicing intellectual history without a license.

Humanism places humans in first place. As such it is opposed to Christianity which places God there.

The first humanist is claimed by the Greeks, Xenofanes. He did not accept any of the gods.

Stuart, I just want to understand this.

You actually support the surgical cutting off of Kosovo from Serbia and you like the fact that it is a now going to be a Muslim state where Christians will be persecuted?

Did you also support the bombing of Serbia on Pascha?

Do not be blinded by your hatred of Russia.
